Hiking in the Sierra de la Cabrera: Cancho Gordo and Castro Arévaco
22 June| 15€
Hiking in the Sierra de la Cabrera, combines incredible summits and historic places in the Guadarrama Range.
At the western end it is the highest summit (El Cancho Gordo) and on its slopes stands the Monastery of San Julián and San Antonio, oldest example of Romanesque in the Autonomous Community of Madrid.
From this interesting cultural spot we will ascend to Cerro Gordo (1563 m), which is our mountaineer’s goal and following a circular route, we will also visit the archaeological complex of the Castro Arévaco, dated two thousand five hundred years ago. The Celtic people of the Arévacos populated the center of the Iberian peninsula and in Cancho de la Cabeza found a steep vantage point that facilitated the defense. Finishing the route in the convent, there is the possibility of visiting the church and gardens where remains a Romanesque cloister.
