The Madrid North Mountains, a beautiful route that passes through Alto de Arrebatacapas and the Chifladero, to return to Torrelaguna.

Driving north on the N-1, after passing La Cabrera and its granite range, you can see a different relief where the predominant rocks are slate and limestone.

The vegetation, conditioned by the soil, also changes by the action of the man by the works of the Canal de Isabel II that adds a different character to the outlooks. We have arrive to a natural landscape that is well worth a visit on foot.

Our route begins in Torrelaguna where we take the GR-10 road and gaining altitude we reach the first summit: Alto de Arrebatacapas (935 m) and very close to the tower of the same name which is one of six of the Jarama, which formed the network of Communications built by the Muslims to defend Toledo.

The terrain is slate and sometimes its strata looks knifes when tilted 90º. After crossing the Arrollo of San Vicente with its vegetation of bank we will rise to the second height of the route: Chifladero (923 m).

Then you have to descend to get to the town of Redueña where there is water to fill the canteens. And leaving this village we return by traditional way to the stream that we crossed before to climb upstream and discover a narrow area next to the Cerro Las Cuchilleras.

La Sierra Norte de Madrid

We return to Torrelaguna whose urban set is National Historical Artistic Monument, to rest refreshing in the Plaza Mayor next to the parish church of Santa Maria Magdalena.

The route is not difficult or steep but is a long route of almost 19 km, so you have to be accustomed to hiking.

Meeting point: 9:10 at MEDRANDA coffee bar located at 221 Paseo de la Castellana, very close to the Plaza de Castilla Square.

It is easy to park at the beginning of the BUS lane. At 10:00 am iA las 10:00 en la Plaza Mayor of Torrelaguna.

How to get there: from Madrid take the A-1 motorway, direction Burgos and at exit 50, link with the N-320 road. Continue for 8 Kms and park in Torrelaguna

Slope: 710 meters.

Duration: between 5:00 and 5:30 hours for the circular tour, not including stops.

Route length : 19 km.

Difficulty: Moderate.

Route: Circular route with departure and arrival to Torrelaguna. We will walk along a path and some stretches of track.

Material: Lightweight backpack, hiking boots, fleece jacket, sun protection, water and picnic.

Recommendations: A cap and sunglasses. A pair of walking poles will make it easier for you to climb up and down.

Exclude:

  • Transport to the departure point of the activity (Torrelaguna). Combination of vehicles or transport with the guide is facilitated.
